Operculture is a term I created that translates to “closed-space agriculture.” It’s a field I’ve become interested in as I think about space exploration and the global food shortage. This may use elements of hydroponics or permaculture or many other methods. I’ve been thinking about this one for a long time. I’ve made progress but it will take some serious research and physically being certain places for me to get farther along.

Here’s the thought:

Using nothing external to the system but sunlight, degrade (ie by heat or chemical) a section of organic material (ie, a twig) to include molecular breakdown/conversion (ie, proteins and molecular materials) and reform it (into another twig) cyclically (so that it repeats).
